About Fredericksburg

The town was founded May 8, 1846, by German immigrants A few years later, Fort Martin Scott was established southeast of Fredericksburg. Many older buildings retain traditional German styles; several units comprise National Historic District. The City of Fredericksburg derived its name from a German nobleman, Prince Frederick of Prussia. During these early years, over 5,000 colonists from Germany landed at the Texas port of Indianola. Most of them settled in Central Texas. The trip from the Gulf Coast to the site of the colony was made in two-wheeled oxcarts and on foot due to the lack of high speed Sport Touring machines from Honda, like the ones we will be riding.

About the Texas Hill Country

Two major geological formations, the Balcones Escarpment and the Edwards Aquifer, are principally responsible for creating the living canvas known as the Texas Hill Country. The land is very much a work in progress, with Mother Nature and Father Time continuing to add bold strokes and inventive detail. Characterized by rolling green hills occasionally dwarfed by cedar-studded limestone ledges, the Hill Country is awash with color. Icy underground springs feed emerald-green rivers and crystal-blue pools while the warm hues of cool, spacious caverns stand as reminders of what these same waters have carved over millennia. Breathtaking fields of wildflowers and herds of wild game accent the views, not to mention the twisty black-top roads that cover the area.

Friday night will be set aside for some route planning, lying, potential beer drinking and a German dinner. First ride will be the next morning, Saturday. We can have breakfast across the street from the hotel before we depart. What route(s) do we take? We can decide that the evening before. However, two ideas are below -
